T is for Tree

Yesterday we gathered everyone up from school and like a farmer herding chickens, I chased everyone home. We eventually made it with only a few trips back to school to retrieve various lunch boxes. We had a tasty snack of brownies and apple slices. Random's birthday is today and so we needed to celebrate!

The boys settled down to finally get serious with the new video game we got so the girls and I made a craft. Since we've been talking about trees and nature we made Helping Hand Trees. The girls snipped and glued and colored while I wrote the poem and tried to keep them from snipping, gluing and coloring their real fingers.

The poem says:

In a forest there's a tree,
Swaying branches flying free,
Home to bird and buzzing bee,
Helpful, happy, just like me.

Sleeping Beauties

I guess Scout and I tuckered them out today!

O is for OH MY GOSH I NEED A SHOWER!!

So I was frantically making dinner last night. Frantic because it was a new recipe and it goes really fast (cook this for 2 minutes, remove, cook this for 1 minute then add that etc). Well, so I'm frantically making dinner when Savannah tells me that the bathroom was flooded.

"Flooded? Like how flooded?"

It was big time flooded. Someone had put in a BUNCH of toilet paper (I have my suspicions who) and then flushed. And flushed again. Maybe once more for good measure. It was really really flooded.

I had a meeting scheduled at my house at 8 last night so I was trying to get dinner out of the way, get cleaned up and then ready for my meeting. So I run in there (dinner is still sizzling hotly on the stove), see all the water, grab a mop, my rubber gloves and start sopping.

I ended up with toilet water all over my pants and this icky feeling all over the rest of me. I washed my arms up to the elbow and ran back into the kitchen. Dinner nearly burned but I made it back just in time. I finished chopping and simmering and served up dinner only about 10 minutes late. Phew!

When Troy came back I greeted him, gave him his dinner and then told him I HAD to take a shower. It was so gross...the toilet water...not the dinner. ^_^

And so that's why I was in the shower when Isaac and Sydney were picked up last night.

The End. :-D

C is for Conversation

I've been listening in on the girls' conversation as they play this morning. They've played all kinds of crazy things. Here are some of my favorite lines:

Sydney: You be Satan.
Scout: OK

Scout: No, no. I'm not your most honorable mother. I'm your nice mother.

Sydney: It was on the movie, where Jesus fasted for 14 days. You remember.
Scout: Oh yeah.

Sydney: You are a parent.
Scout: And so my feet grew bigger.
Sydney:And my feet grew because I wasn't fasting anymore

Sydney: I like banana splits.
Scout: Me too. They're so delicious.
Sydney: But they're not for kids.
Scout: Yes they are.
Sydney: No they're not. They're at McDonalds.

Just like Real School!

Today we played catch up on last week's theme since we were so jostled by the arrival of "Michigan Stuff." We were able to read "Commander Toad and the Space Pirates" but since it's a longer story then we normally read (Frog and Toad style) I told the girls we would read a "chapter" each day in addition to our other story books. I thought they would complain and want to read it all at once but they were so excited. They had heard from their older brothers and sisters that in "real school" their teacher reads them chapter books out loud. So we read our "chapter book" out loud while they closed their eyes and imagined pictures. It was perfect and oh so grown up. We can't wait to find out what happens to Commander Toad and his fearless (if slightly bored) crew!

Tomorrow we will celebrate Smell Day as planned but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we will finish our tree and earth unit and do the crafts I had prepared for last week.
